After the Birth

Good postpartum support is not a luxury, it is an essential part of your birth plan. We strongly urge that doula services be arranged for the first week or two postpartum. This can be a family member, friend or hired person who can take care of meals, dishes and other household chores, as well as taking responsibility for older siblings so that the mother can heal, regain her energy, and focus on the new baby. Adequate rest, good nutrition and fluid intake are critical to uncomplicated recovery from birth, smooth transition to breastfeeding and to the avoidance of postpartum depression.
